There are no adverts, no analytics, no trackers and no third party code. If you do not make an account, nothing about you leaves your device at all, unless you choose to write to us.

An account is optional and does one thing: it carries your own marks between your own devices. This page says exactly what that involves, because a promise like the one above is easy to make and worth spelling out. An earlier version of this page said there was no account and no server, which was true when it was written and stopped being true when signing in was added.

If you do not sign in

Nothing is collected and nothing is sent. Your bookmarks, notes, ribbon, reading position, theme, khatm progress and the days you have read are on your own device and nowhere else. No identifier is assigned to you and no request carries anything about you.

The consequence is worth knowing: if you delete the app, or clear your browser’s site data, all of it is gone and nobody can recover it. Saving your own copy, below, is then the only backup there is.

If you do sign in

An account does one thing: it carries your own reading between your own devices, so the page you stopped on is the page the other one opens at. It is free and it is optional, and everything below is simply what that costs to make work.

Signing in is an email address and a six digit code. There is no password, so there is nothing here that could be leaked and used to open your other accounts.

This is everything that is then held, and why:

Your email addressTo know which reading is yours, and to send you the code
Your marksBookmarks, notes, ribbon, khatm progress and the days you have read, so your other devices can have them
A word for each deviceOne of iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, Windows, Linux or Browser, so you can recognise a device on your account page and remove it. Never the full browser string, which would be a fingerprint
When each device last syncedShown on your account page
Whether you asked for update emailsOff unless you tick the box, with the date you ticked it
Your IP address, brieflyOnly while a sign in code is live, only to stop a stranger spending the email quota, and deleted within the hour
A random number for each copy of the appMade on the device the first time it is used, so a day read on your phone and the same day read on your iPad are not counted twice. It is not your phone's number and not an advertising number: it is made up by the app, means nothing anywhere else, and a fresh install makes a new one

Your reading settings are deliberately not carried. A phone in bed at night and a laptop in daylight want different things.

The code you are sent is never stored. What is stored is a one way hash of it, so the table cannot be read to sign in as you, and it is deleted as soon as it is used or within the hour either way. A signed in device stays signed in for a year unless you remove it.

None of it is sold, shared or advertised against. There is no profile, no scoring and nothing derived about you, and nobody reads your notes.

Said plainly, because a promise is worth more than a word: your marks are stored as ordinary text, not scrambled, so somebody with access to the database could read them. That is true of almost every app you use and it is worth knowing rather than glossing. What we can tell you is that nobody does, that there is no reason anybody would, and that you can remove every trace of it yourself in one tap. The terms say the same thing.

If you write to us

The app’s Contact us page sends a problem report, an idea or a question to support@aneesd.com. Nothing goes until you press send, and the page shows you everything that will go with it before you do.

What you writeYour report, idea or question, and a screenshot if you choose to add one
Your email addressOnly if you give it, so that we can reply. Without it nobody can write back
Technical detailsFor a problem report: the app’s version, the kind of phone and its system, the page, theme and sound settings you were using, and anything the app noted going wrong. You can switch these off. An idea or a question carries only the app’s version and the kind of phone

It arrives as an email. A copy of the words is kept on the server for 90 days and then deleted; it exists to stop one phone sending dozens a day, which is also why a scrambled form of the phone’s random number and of your IP address is kept with it for the same time. The screenshot is never kept on the server, only attached to the email. Your bookmarks, notes and reading history are never sent.

The days you have read

The app keeps which days you read and which pages you read on them, so it can show you your own reading over time. A page counts once it has been in front of you for a few seconds, so turning through the book looking for something is not recorded as reading it.

It is on to begin with. You can turn it off at any time under Your reading, where you can also delete every day of it at once. Turning it off stops the recording rather than hiding it: nothing is written after that.

Who else is involved

Two companies, both only as far as they have to be:

CloudflareHosts the site and the database. Every request to 13linequran.com passes through them, as with any website
ResendSends the sign in code, and delivers any message you send from the Contact us page. They see your email address and the code, or the message, and nothing else
ExpoPhone apps only. Serves corrections to the app, and sees which version of it is asking

There is nobody else. No font service, no content delivery network for third party code, no advertising network, no analytics.

Network

The website downloads its own files from 13linequran.com, the same way any website does, and your browser keeps a copy so it works with no signal afterwards. Every page of the Quran and every typeface comes from there and nowhere else.

With no account, that is the only kind of request the website makes. Signed in, it also asks the same address for anything your other devices have added, when you open it and when you come back to it. It never polls in the background.

The phone apps ask one more thing, once, when you open them: whether there is a correction waiting. A scanned page occasionally has to be fixed, and without this the only way to send you the corrected one would be a fresh download of the whole app. That request carries no account, no identifier and nothing about your reading. It says which version of the app you are running and nothing else, and if it fails the app carries on exactly as it is.

Notifications

The daily reading reminder is a feature of the phone apps, not of this site, and there are no notifications of any kind on the web. On a phone, if you turn it on, the reminder is scheduled by the phone itself. No push service is involved, no token is created and nothing is registered with anyone. Turning it off removes it entirely.

Getting it all back, or getting rid of it

Under Reading settings, the app writes everything you have made into one file you keep, with or without an account. Opening that file later adds what is in it to whatever is on the device then, and removes nothing.

Deleting your account is on the account page and takes effect immediately. It removes your email address, every mark held for you, every signed in device and any code still outstanding. Nothing is kept back and there is no grace period. What is on your own devices stays there, and stays yours.

You can also remove a single device without deleting the account, which signs that device out and leaves everything else alone.

If the app is already off your phone and you cannot get to that button, ask us to delete it for you and we will.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and nothing about it is directed at children. With no account nothing at all is collected, which is how we would expect a child to use it. An account asks for an email address, so a child should only make one with a parent.

Changes

If this ever changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top will say so. Any change that involved collecting something new would be announced in the app before it took effect.
